Effective September 29, 2026
This site is run by Miners Castle Press in Michigan. We ask for as little as we can, we use it to mail things to children and to write to their grown-ups, and we don’t sell it to anyone. We ship within the United States only. Write to hello@deedeethechickadee.com with any question about your information, or to ask us to change or delete it.
The Chickadee Club is meant for parents, grandparents and other grown-up gift-givers, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13: there is nothing here for a child to log into, post on, or send us. If a child ever does send us something, we delete it. Everything we hold about a child comes from the adult who signed them up; see below.
When you join The Chickadee Club: your name and email address, the child’s first and last name, the address the envelopes go to, which plan you chose (Monthly, 6 Months or 12 Months) and whether you chose to renew, your optional gift note, and, if you scanned a code at an event or elsewhere to get here, where you joined from. From Stripe we also keep a record of what you paid and identifiers that let us match your payment to your membership.
When you ask to hear about the activity book: your email address.
When you buy from the shop: your name, email address and the shipping address you give on Stripe’s checkout page, what you ordered and what you paid. We use them to send your order and keep our accounts. We don’t add shop buyers to any mailing list.
When you ask to be emailed when something is back in stock: your email address and which item, plus a scrambled fingerprint of your internet address that we use only to stop one person filling the list. We email you once, when the item is back, and then delete it all. If the item never comes back, we delete it after a year.
Payment details: handled entirely by Stripe on their own checkout page. We never see or store your card number.
This website has no advertising trackers and no analytics, and sets no cookies to follow you around. The one cookie we do set for members and buyers appears only after you use a sign-in link, only to keep you signed in to your own membership page for 30 minutes, and it goes when you sign out. (The people who run the shop have a cookie of their own for the shop’s back office.) Nobody tracks you across other websites from here. Because we don’t track anyone, we take no action on “Do Not Track” signals from your browser; there is nothing for them to turn off. Stripe’s checkout page is Stripe’s own, and their privacy policy covers it. Your shop cart is kept only in your own browser (in its local storage, not in a cookie); we see what’s in it only when you check out.
Everything we hold about a child — their name and the address to mail to — is given to us by the purchasing adult, never collected from the child. A child’s name and address are used for one thing only: addressing their envelope. We never use them for marketing, we never build profiles from them, and we never sell them. We don’t share them with anyone except the vendors below who help us print, mail and take payment. To have a child’s information removed, email us and we’ll delete it.
When you buy a gift membership, we hold the recipient child’s name and address for that same single purpose: addressing their envelopes. The child’s own grown-up can ask us to change or delete that information at any time, and you, as the person who bought the gift, can see and change the mailing address for as long as the gift is running.
To manage any membership without a password, whether it is a Monthly plan or a gift, we email you a one-time sign-in link. It expires after 30 minutes and works once. We store only a fingerprint of that link, never the link itself and never a password, so nobody who saw our records could reuse it. We also keep a short log of sign-in link requests, for up to a month, so we can spot and stop anyone trying to guess or abuse them.
Only the companies that run parts of this business for us, and only what they need:
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never sell or share a child’s. We don’t trade, rent or swap our list with anyone, for advertising or for any other purpose. If the law ever required us to hand something over, we would comply, and we’d tell you unless we were forbidden to.
Email hello@deedeethechickadee.com for any of these, and we’ll take care of it within 30 days. That address is also where to send a request about the selling of personal information, though the answer is that we don’t.
The membership list is locked so that only we can read it, and the website is served over an encrypted connection. Card numbers never reach us. No system is perfect, but a short list of names and addresses, with no card numbers and no passwords, is about as small a target as we can make it. If information were ever taken in a way that put anyone at risk, we would tell the people affected as quickly as we could, and do whatever the law where they live requires.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change really matters, we’ll email members rather than hope you notice.
