The first envelope
Your first envelope brings that month’s bird, with its story and cards, plus three things to keep: Dee Dee’s Backyard Map poster, a card wallet and a letter from Dee Dee. They set up everything the monthly envelopes will fill. There is nothing extra to pay.

A fold-out poster. Each month a new bird sticker goes on it, placed where that bird lives. A new map for the year’s birds comes every January.

A place to keep the collectible bird cards as they arrive.

Written to your child, with their name on it.
We haven’t printed the first envelope yet, so there’s no photo of it to show. When we have, a picture of an opened envelope will go here.
What comes each month
One envelope, one bird. Here is what’s in it.
- A 12-page story, with a “Did You Know?” fact they’ll repeat at dinner
- Two collectible bird cards: a numbered series card and a “Wild Flock” mystery card, with real field marks, songs and habits on the back
- A new map sticker for Dee Dee’s Backyard Map, placed where that bird lives
- Coloring and activity pages featuring the month’s bird
- A backyard craft: something to make together, like a pinecone or milk-jug bird feeder
- Backyard surprises: birdseed, wildflower seeds and stickers

What a year adds up to
After twelve envelopes, your child has 24 bird cards in their wallet, twelve birds placed on their Backyard Map, each where it lives, and twelve stories to read again and again.
Along the way there are crafts to make together, like a pinecone or milk-jug bird feeder, plus birdseed, wildflower seeds and stickers.
By the end of the year, the birds at your feeder have names, and your child knows every one.
Every member gets the same new bird each month, and every January brings a fresh map for the year ahead.
Questions people ask
What ages is it for?
Ages 4 to 8. Younger children can have it read to them, and older ones can read it alone.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes. Pick any plan and tick “This is a gift” when you join. Add a note if you like, and we’ll tuck it into the first envelope. 6 Months is paid once and never renews, so nobody is surprised by a charge later. If you stop a prepaid plan partway, the refunds page explains what you get back.
When does the first envelope arrive?
Join by the 15th of a month and envelopes start the next month. Join after the 15th and they start the month after that. The map poster, card wallet and letter come inside that same envelope, so there is nothing else to wait for.
What if we move?
Members can update the address themselves at deedeethechickadee.com/manage. Do it as soon as you know. Change it before the 15th and the new address applies to next month’s envelope.
Where do you ship?
To addresses in the United States only. Shipping is included.
How do I cancel?
Cancel anytime at deedeethechickadee.com/manage, or by email. 6 Months never renews, so it simply ends after its last envelope. If you tick “Renew automatically each year” on 12 Months, you can turn that off at the same place, and we’ll email you a reminder before it renews. The details, including refunds, are on cancellations and refunds.

Sign-ups open soon. Email us and we’ll tell you the day they do.
- Your first envelope brings that month's bird, plus Dee Dee's Backyard Map poster, a card wallet and a letter from Dee Dee. There is nothing extra to pay.
- Your first envelope mails on or around January 1, 2027. Join by the 15th of a month and envelopes start the next month; join after the 15th and they start the month after that.
- Monthly: $22 per month. Your first $22 is charged today and covers your first envelope. After that, $22 on the 15th of each month, starting January 15, 2027, pays for the envelope that mails the next month. Cancel before the 15th and you won’t be charged for the next envelope. An envelope you’ve already paid for still mails.
- 6 Months: one payment today. It never renews.
- 12 Months: one payment today. If you tick “Renew automatically each year,” it renews at $229 per year, charged on the 15th of your 12th month, two weeks before your 13th envelope. We’ll email you a reminder before it does.
- Every member gets the same new bird each month, so your child starts with the bird of their first month. Each January brings a new map for the year’s birds.
